A Guru’s love is greater than any other. I felt this personally in my few years as a disciple in Ottawa in the ‘70s with a preschool son.
One summer the disciples from the Ottawa Centre joined others in New York for some festivities held in a large field outside the city. There were tents everywhere with different kinds of games, and Guru himself came riding in on a pony! I was overwhelmed by all the people and instead of joining in, I wandered off to a nearby stream and walked barefoot, stepping over stones and feeling the coolness of the sparkling waters. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was enjoying myself immensely until I suddenly stubbed my toe on a rock. It really hurt!
I came back to the group and was told I wasn’t supposed to go off by myself! I knew that, but was secretly glad I did! That night we slept on the floor of someone’s house and my toe was really throbbing by then, all swollen and hurting like crazy. I felt it must have been my punishment for wandering off. But then I just decided to pray to Guru for his forgiveness and beg him to please heal my sore toe. I also prayed that my young son would not miss me too much, being at home in Canada with my parents. In fact, I kept waking up and praying, just in case he hadn’t heard me the first time!
When I woke up in the morning, my toe was completely healed. There was no sign of any injury and the pain was all gone. That to me was a miracle!
When I got home I asked my mother how my son had been. She said she had never seen him so happy. In fact, he was almost blissful! She had never known him to be in such a good mood all the time (usually he has tantrums!).
This to me was a sure sign that Guru had been answering my prayers that night and that he loves us all very, very much. Even when we’re bad.

Kate, what a sweet and lovely story. Your sincere heart’s call to your Guru was most certainly heard and Guru’s Grace passed through your prayer to your son. It reminded me of times when Guru had us stand before him and bring to our mind and heart the image of a family member so that he could spiritually and occultly reach through our consciousness and love as a link whereby he could bless tha family member we were focusing on.
